Hi- my gran daughter Lyla recommended pax to me. Lyla and I have started a book club for the 2 of us. Lyla recommends books to me that she has read and I read them and then we discuss each book as I am reading it. This has created a strong connection between Lyla and myself . It allows us to discuss feelings, tears, laughter and growing up and getting older . I am 73 and Lyla is ten. I am learning so much from Lyla about being a thoughtful caring human being. Pax is an endless font of feelings to be discussed. What a wonderful experience pax is. Thank you Sara , for writing from the heart. Your new reader. Shirley |

Hi Sara,
I am preparing to send the Clementine books to Russia (to a schoolteacher friend)- reading them first. My first though this morning was "what is her brother's name?" I couldn't think of it, so decided to look it up. I was relieved to see the word "unnamed" in reference to her brother - I hadn't forgotten it! I know Anastasia and her class will love these books. Thank you. Donna Haffenden |

Hi,
I live in Maryland and one of my granddaughters lives in Seattle. I have been "Zoom" reading the "Clementine" books to her and she absolutely can't get enough. The last book I read, "Clementine an the Family Meeting", ends before the new baby is born. I can't seem to find a book summary that tells which book comes next. We are both anxious to know about the new baby and the new family table being built. Would that be in COMPLETELY CLEMENTINE? Thanks so much for writing such fun books for young children. I am a retired Kindergarten teacher and I appreciate books that engage new readers. Hope to hear from you. Leslie |

Hi Ms. Pennypacker,
Just wanted to drop by and write a thank you for writing Pax! I was around eleven when I first discovered Pax at my local Barnes & Noble - it was the first book I had ever chosen for myself. I finished it up in just two hours, but this book had a certain nostalgic quality/magic to it that made me unable to put it down when I started reading it. To be truthful, this was the first book that made me tear up. To this day, I'm not too sure why, but your characters have just touched me in such a way... the next day, I went on a whole fox binge. I'm nearing 16 now, but I have a feeling that this book will always be one that is close to my heart. I love how all of the characters just leapt out of the pages, they were all so so dimensional. And the ending, it wasn't cliche at all... it was bittersweet, but very realistic and very honest. I think that was one of the best endings I've ever read to a book. I'm not too great at expressing my feelings, but I just wanted to let you know (and you probably know this already): your book is truly a work of art. I am so glad that I had chosen to bring this book home with me that one fateful night, it has brought me so much comfort in darker times, and has inspired me to write some works of my own. Anyway, thank you dearly for writing Pax, this will be a book I will forever continue recommending to my friends and family. I don't know whether or not you'll read this, but I'd just like to put this somewhere out there in the grand universe - I wish you all the best to come!
Much love,
Ann from California <3 |

Hello Sara! Today I found my old copy of Clementine that I read and loved when I was 8 (I am 21 now). It is as wonderful as I remembered it! I hadn't read the book in over 10 years, but I never forgot that part about the easy child and the hard child. For some reason that phrase really struck me then, as it strikes me now. Anyway, I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed the book, both as a child and as an adult.
Best wishes! |
