Dear Mrs. Pennypacker, My name is Dorian Smith and I am a fourth grade student in Oregon. I am in the online program this year, so we learn through a platform called FuelEducation. I am 9 years old and my favorite color is blue. For an ELA unit in school, we read your book, Pax. My favorite parts were when Vola said that she was going to leave the porch door open for Peter, when Runt was being really thoughtful and getting Pax food, and when Bristle taught Pax how to hunt. The part when Peter was on the bus leaving and Vola said that she was going to leave the porch door open, made my mom and I cry. I think it’s because you developed her so well that it made us think that we really knew her. It made us really emotional because she went from being a hermit to more of a family member to Peter. I want to thank you for writing such a beautiful book because I’ve read many books and they have never ever made me cry! I also have some questions. What inspired the story? Why did you choose a fox as the animal? My mom asked, “If you continued the story would Peter go and live with Vola or would he be strong enough to live on his own?” I hope you have a great day! Your fan, Dorian Smith

Dear Sara My fourth grade class read Pax and my favorite part of Pax was when Peter met Vola. I did not know how peter would get out when he got a broken leg and Vola helped Peter to continue his journey. It was hard to put down the book when this happened and I wanted to read to the end to see if Peter finds Pax. It is one of my favorite books. Sincerely, Grayson

Hello! I recently finished Pax, and I really enjoyed it. We read it in my 4th grade class and I was many chapters ahead of other people. I really liked all the details and how you really showed the character's personalities. I think it was just overall amazing and really fun to read. Holly

Hello, I was very touched by your book. I have never had to leave a pet but I love my dogs Radley and Kramer just as much (if not more) as Peter loves Pax. I read this book as an assignment from my online school but it definitely wasn't a boring chapter book that I barely survived through. I loved how you told the story from both Peter and Pax's perspectives. Thank you so much for sharing such an incredible story with the world.

Dear Sara, I'm a 4th grader in Oregon. Our class had to read Pax and I liked the book. The ending in the story Pax surprised me because I thought that Peter would take Pax home or they would live with Vola with Runt and Bristle. I thought some of the parts were a little sad. For example, when Runt lost his leg and Gray died. My favorite part in the story Pax was when Peter met Vola and when Peter found Pax. I'm wondering if there is going to be a movie about Pax? I'm also wondering how you got the idea to write the book Pax? I also have read your book Clementine. I also really liked that book too. And I like your Flat Stanly books. Are you still writing books? I think you are a really good author. Bye

Hi Sara — I just read Pax! It is my new favorite book. I loved the story, the characters and I want more! Hahaha. I am curious to know if there will be a sequel? I feel like I am missing out on more of all of their lives. I want to know more about the healing between father and son, I want to know more about Vola, and I want to know more about Pax, Bristle and Runt. I can’t let go yet. :) you are an amazing story teller and although I am I. My 50’s your books are timeless. Thank you for enriching my life during these hard time’s.

Dear Sara, I really like your Clementine books and I'm about to read your Waylon books. I hope you make more books with these characters and if you need to make a book about a new character, I would recommend making a book about Summer because I just finished "Completely Clementine" and I hope you make a Summer series. Sincerely, Emma, 8 P.S. I love your books. Bye!
