Witam. Jestem Zosia mam 11 lat. Pozdrawiam serdecznie Zosia |

A couple weeks ago, I picked up Pax Journey Home because Greenlight Books had it on display as a "signed first edition," and I figured my brilliant 7-year-old grandson in France would enjoy a book about a fox. I mean, who doesn't?
Today, I went back and bought Pax, because I figured I should start at the first book. It's nearly 2 am, and I've just read Vola's discussion with Peter of her loss of herself in war, and...I just wanted to tell you, it's so true it makes my teeth ache.
Kinda pisses me off, because I could never, ever express it as well--and I'm a writer. So...Dyableman you, Sara Pennypacker, for being so good at what you do!
I can only imagine how amazed my son will be, if Raphaël lets him read the book to him, at the quality of this piece of literature. And the plus of the Klassen illustrations--the kid has every one of his picture books.
Thank you so much for the gift you're allowing me to send off to the boy who breaks my heart by living so far away.

Hi Ms. Pennypacker,
I just want to say that you are an amazing writer. I love your style and how things in your books can take to unexpected depth and plot twists. I read your book, "Pax-Journey Home" and it had so much more depth and meaning then I expected. If I ever met Peter, knowing all he has gone through and all the decisions he has made through his life, I would just want to hold his hands between mine, and just whisper in his ear, "It's ok. It really is. I know what you've been through. It'll all be clear." He just needs that simple comfort, that it will be ok. As for Pax, I can't argue anything with him. He's just so faithful and loyal to his family and to Peter, finding that in between. You are truly an amazing writer! Will there be a third Pax book?
A thoughtful reader, Michelle |

I loved Pax when it came out. I just listened to the audio sequel, which made me cry. Than you so much for writing this tender book about love, forgiveness and friendship. (I’m an old retired librarian, not your target audience, but still.) |

Dear Mrs. Pennypacker,
My name is Clementine, just like the girl that you write about. I have read your book called Pax, and it is amazing! You are such a good author!

My granddaughter, Eleanor, and I loved reading all of your Clementine books. But, at the end of Completely Clementine, she had one question, "What is Clementine's brother's real name?!?". We were both sure we would find out in the end. |

sara, I am so glad that with the help of my local children's book store in Hopewell nj. I have found your books. I am in the early stages of altheimers and think that i will have to eventually limit my reading to shorter and simpler books. I have read a few of yours and think that i will put the rest on my 'to read when" list. Thank you for the wonderful stories!!

Sara: I'm writing to thank you for Here in the Real World. I'm 65, a lifelong lover of children's books and picture books, and a scholar of liturgy and pastoral care. HRW is now on my personal Top Ten Favorite Children's Books of All Time list. (Well, I do cheat and count the Narnia Chronicles as one!) I am giving copies to many of my young relations and adult friends, especially those with any interest in ritual, sacraments, communal sacred action inside and outside church walls. I tell them, it's about baptism, and communion, and holiness, and art. About the connection between art and nature and ritual. About the need for real communal connection in order to make ritual meaningful and alive. (Someone has to dunk you!) About the need to truly look, and to have someone to look with you. And all conveyed without the slightest preachiness (which shows up not only in much Christian writing for kids, but also in more New-Agey or secular stuff). It's realistic and vivid and tender and funny and down to earth. Literally down to earth. I love how Ware stakes his claim to realistic hope, not Magic Fairness Land but a real world we can appreciate and protect, improve and share. I also love how his mother misses the boat with him, believably and hurtfully, and then believably comes around. I love the way Big Deal appreciates Jolene, the way Ware's uncle gets him. I love the necessary role of the wider community beyond the families (and family-equivalents, Walter and Mrs. Stavros, for Jolene): Ashley and the Audubon ladies, Mrs. Sauer. Too few kids' novels nowadays have the characters interacting with the broader community in such meaningful ways. I love the tripartite blessing formula Ware comes up with for the water on p. 195. I love how Jolene's concern with what happens when things or people are discarded is conveyed to us, first of all in her approval of the that/who distinction! And I love how we go from the ruins, from magic and holiness being gone, to "*now* this place is holy." This was a testament to hope I needed intensely last year in the valley of the shadow of COVID/Trumpism, and will be an ongoing expression for me of the core of my spiritual convictions. This is what I, as a churchgoing Lutheran, want the church to embody and to recognize and nurture in the world beyond its walls. Saints together, and a shared story, and working for fairness, and wow! You see that? |

Dear Sara,
I absolutely loved your books! I think I have read all of them besides Summer of the Gypsy Moths! I could read your Waylon & your Clementine books over and over and overI! I want you to know that you inspired me a lot to writing my own book I may only be 12 but it has always been my dream! Every time I read about Clementine I get more and more ideas about what I should write a story on! |
